"I would like to state clearly immediately that we definitely not planning to stop the whole economy or individual sectors to take a second wave under control," the prime minister said in a Facebook post.
"We will take a path of "safe activity" in the new reality, meaning proper use of masks, disinfection, safe distances and other measures we have planned as part of the COVID-19 management strategy," he said.
The use of means of maximum protection, not restrictions, will be a priority, Skvernelis said.
"We will monitor epidemiological indicators and, if necessary, make decisions in individual municipalities and sectors. Naturally, if the situation changes dramatically and it is really necessary, restrictions will be possible but I hope we won’t need them," the prime minister posted.
The growing number of coronavirus infections is causing concern, Skvernelis said, calling on people to take the situation seriously and stick to recommendation, wear PPE properly and comply with hygiene standards.
Skvernelis also urged people to avoid gatherings, festivities and other events, adding that services will boost their capacity over the upcoming weekend when the Assumption will b celebrated.
Thirteen new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Lithuania over the past 24 hours, bringing the country's total count to 2,265, the Health Ministry said on Monday morning.
Lithuania currently has 501 active cases and 1,670 recoveries.
Eighty-one people have died of COVID-19 in the country so far, and another 13 coronavirus-infected patients have died of other causes.
