Daily Lietuvos Zinios' online version shut down

Lzinios.lt, the online version Lietuvos Zinios, a Lithuanian print daily that was liquidated earlier this year, has been shut down.

The site became inaccessible to users on Friday.

The last print edition of Lietuvos Zinios was published in late April.

Achemos Grupe, the owner of the company that published Lietuvos Zinios and a regional newspaper and their online versions, said in April that the group had decided not to subsidize the loss-making business anymore.

Lietuvos Zinios posted a net loss of 963,300 euros for 2018.

Founded in June 1909, Lietuvos Zinios was one of Lithuania's oldest newspapers.

Lietuvos Zinios was published by the council of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party between 1990 and 1993. Achemos Grupe acquired the newspaper in November 1993.
