Lithuania to receive around EUR 2.43b in EU funding next year

The European Parliament and the EU Council on Monday reached an agreement on the EU's next year budget of 170.6 billion euros. It also includes funding for Lithuania's priority areas, including the cohesion and agricultural policies as well as additional funding for dealing with the EU's arising health and migration challenges, Lithuania's Finance Ministry says.

"It's important that the final version ensures proper funding for Lithuania's strategically important traditional policy areas, like cohesion and agriculture. Moreover, additional funding is planned for fighting new challenges, including migration and border protection, which is now important for Lithuania," Finance Vice Minister Mindaugas Liutvinskas was quoted as saying in a statement.

In 2022, Lithuania expects to receive around 1.33 billion euros in EU cohesion policy funding, around 0.92 billion euros from EU common agriculture policy funds, around 144 million euros under the CEF transport funding, and also around 40 million euros for the decommissioning of the Ignalina NPP.

The EU budget also includes 25 million euros in additional funding for the management of the illegal migration crisis at the EU border with Belarus, but it remains to be seen how specifically these funds will be distributed among Lithuania, Poland and Latvia.

Lithuania is set to receive a total of around 2,43 billion euros in EU funding next year, and Lithuania's contribution to the EU budget will stand at around 627.4 million euros.
