Number of workplace deaths down by one-third

The number of workplace deaths in Lithuania shrank by 33 percent, or 7 cases, in the first half of 2020 from a year before, to 14 cases, figures from the State Labor Inspectorate showed on Friday.

The watchdog also recorded 58 incidents of serious injuries at work between January and June.

Transport and warehousing, construction and manufacturing sectors accounted for the majority of workplace deaths and serious injuries in the reporting period, with workplace deaths also recorded in agriculture, forestry, administrative and services sectors as well as real estate sector's undertakings.

Around one-third of workplace deaths (6) and serious injuries (19) were the result of falling from a height.
