In urban areas, 84 percent of households had computers at home and 90 percent had internet access, compared with 73 percent and 82 percent respectively in rural areas, new figures from the country's statistics service, Statistics Lithuania, show on Friday.

88 percent of the country's population aged 16-74 used the internet this year, up from 83 percent in 2020). While the proportion of the elder population (aged 65-74) using the internet rose by 2 percentage points.

People most often use the internet for information search, communication, leisure and banking. 84 percent of 16-74 year olds used the internet for information search and communication, 76 percent used it for leisure and 75 percent went online for online banking.

46 percent of the population used e-commerce for personal purposes in the last three months.

The data on households' use of information technology was collected in April through June this year when 4,500 people aged 16-74 were surveyed.
