The population is invited to organize readings of their own.
"The list of initiatives is not final – anyone willing can contribute by selecting a location that is important for the remembering the Holocaust. First and last names of those killed can be found in museums, libraries and organizations working to preserve the Jewish heritage," initiators of the campaign say.
The civil initiative Names will be held for the 7th consecutive year.
"Holocaust is one of the most distressing subjects in the history of Lithuania. Only talking and remembering the unpleasant truth can help us become open to the world. I believe the readings are a powerful and personal expression of such memory and freedom," said Milda Jakulyte-Vasil, coordinator of the Names initiative.
Lithuania marks the Jewish Genocide Memorial Day on Sept. 23, the day of the liquidation of the Vilnius ghetto in 1943.
