"If the situation changes and it gets drastically worse, some new solutions may emerge," Veryga told LRT Radio. "Various options have been mapped out".
What schools and other education institutions need to know is that they must inform the National Public Health Center (NPHC) if a positive test is confirmed, according to the minister.
Public health officials "will carry out an investigation and say what to do next," he said.
Veryga said it was impossible to make any recommendations for schools in advance due to the constantly changing coronavirus situation.
"Now that the situation becomes more predictable, these recommendations become more precise, too," he noted.
"Of course, this is worrying," Veryga said when asked if he was concerned about schools starting teaching in classrooms rather than remotely. "But this is a concern around the world facing the spread (of the virus)."
The Lithuanian Education, Science and Sport Ministry has worked out recommendations for schools for how to organize the educational process to ensure that students from different groups or classes do not come in close contact with each other.
Schools closed the last academic year remotely as nationwide quarantine restrictions were still in place. Some of the educational process may take place remotely in the new school year, too.
