For one day on Friday, all traffic lights at the crossings on Gedimino Avenue in central Vilnius were flashing yellow, green, and red simultaneously to celebrate the 26th anniversary of Lithuania's independence from the Soviet Union.
Mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimašius said on Friday: “We, Lithuanians, are proud to commemorate the Restoration of our Independence on March 11, 26 years ago today. To celebrate this momentous event, this year for one day we will be changing the traffic lights in the city’s main street to reflect the colours of our national flag. And we hope that you all will be able to come down and join us in our celebration.”
The change affected five crossings on Gediminas Avenue between 9 AM and 6 PM last Friday.
