It’ll be the first visit to Kaunas for numerous runners and their supporters, so visit.kaunas.lt teamed up with the organizers to make sure everyone has the chance to know the city a bit better during their stay.
On Saturday, June 8, people are welcome to join a free walking tour hosted by Kaunas In. The English-language tour will take 1 hour. Participants must register in advance.
Team at the Kaunas IN tourism information centre located at the Town Hall (it’s the same square where the marathon will start and finish) will be happy to help to find the best places in town to take a walk, get a cup of coffee, try some fantastic brunch or dinner, explore the street art of Kaunas, to discover local museums and architecture, galleries and boutiques, and much more.
Participants of the marathon are also welcome to explore the history and culture of Kaunas by visiting some of our numerous museums that have also agreed to join the marathon weekend programme. On 7-9 June, Kaunas city museum (also located at the Town Hall!) offers a 50% discount for a ticket for all the participants of “Citadele Kaunas marathon” at most of its branches.
Both located a stone’s throw from the town hall, the Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum and its department Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas Memorial Flat-Museum invite the marathon participants and their supporters for a free visit on June 7 and 8. Also in the same neighbourhood, the Lithuanian Sports Museum offers to visit them with a 50% discount on June 8 and 9.
M.K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art and its departments M. Žilinskas Art Gallery, Kaunas Picture Gallery and Historical Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuania will also offer 50% discount for a ticket for all the runners.
Vytautas the Great War Museum invites everyone to visit their special exhibition “Citius Altius Fortius” that’ll be held at the Town Hall Square. It can be a great inspiration and motivation for performance in the marathon run. Here visitors will find out some tips and tricks about physical preparation for soldiers.
To recover after the marathon, participans can choose among the numerous cafes and restaurants that offer exclusive deals for the participants of “Citadele Kaunas Marathon” on June 8 and 9.
