On June 17, the quarantine will officially be over in Lithuania; some restrictions will remain, but more and more people are back in the streets, squares and parks of Kaunas, enjoying warm weather and rediscovering the city’s vibrant cultural life.

Moreover, direct flights to Kaunas Airport are back on, so we are looking forward to meeting both Lithuanian travellers and guests from abroad. Below are a few musical ideas for your stay in Kaunas.

The residents’ favourite open-air concert and chill out spots include “Pakrantė” event space in the Nemunas island, “Adform Yard” in the Old Town, the newly opened Kaunas Cultural Centre terrace in downtown Kaunas, and our best-kept secret, a wooden house-bar “O kodėl ne?” hidden in a grove up the Žaliakalnis hill, the latter better known for DJ vibes than for live guitars.

“Laukas”, a joint venture of food and music at Nepriklausomybės square, should be reopened soon. Please have in mind that tickets to some concerts might cost a little bit more you can expect; this is due to safety regulations restrictions imposed for the promoters – getting a full house is not really possible these days!

Live: Junior A
“Pakrantė” event space, Nemunas island

The creative team at Žalgirio arena decided to extend the free time zone outside, while large-scale events are under a big question in the country. “Pakrantė” is a chill zone full of food trucks, DJs and good mood, and every Saturday a live show is planned there. Junior A is a young Lithuanian musician’s one-person project that’s been a massive surprise in his country’s music scene. In early 2017, he started recording lo-fi electronic music in his room and almost immediately after uploading his songs he got onto Spotify’s US Viral playlist. Here is his newest piece, created together with yet another fresh Lithuanian talent Jokūbas Tulaba.

Live: Colours of Bubbles
“Pakrantė” event space, Nemunas island

Colours of Bubbles represent the most recent generation of guitar bands that Šiauliai, a Northern Lithuanian city has always been famous for. This time, however, it’s not funk-infused postpunk, Britpop or electro-rock, but a rather new indie rock that combines alternative country influences and modern rock’n’roll drive. Staying true to their musical roots, Colours of Bubbles write all of their songs in English.
