"They are a family living in Kaunas, husband and wife born in 1980 and 1985 (respectively). They were on a skiing trip in northern Italy between February 29 and March 6," Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga told reporters on Wednesday.

The spouses returned to Lithuania by car on March 7 and filed out the National Public Health Center's form, the minister said.

The pair felt feverish and called an ambulance. They are currently hospitalized in Kaunas and have mild symptoms, Veryga said.

Two close relatives of the patients are in home isolation, he added.

Before these two cases, there was only one confirmed coronavirus case before in the country.

At the moment there are around 5,5 thousand people under watch in Lithuania due to coronavirus risk.

Lithuania's first coronavirus case was confirmed on February 28 in a 39-year-old resident of Siauliai who was diagnosed with the disease after returning from Italy. The woman continues to test positive for coronavirus and remains hospitalized.

A total of 290 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Lithuania to date.
