Dead swan tests positive for bird flu in Kedainiai

A dead swan found in Lithuania's central city of Kedainiai has tested positive for highly-pathogenic bird flu, the country's State Food and Veterinary Service said on Friday.

Veterinary specialists were informed about the dead bird by a local resident.

According to the SFVS, its specialists have taken all necessary measures to prevent the virus from spreading as bird flu is a highly contagious acute viral disease affecting wild bird and poultry.

Migrating wild water birds are the main carriers and spreaders of this virus.

It's not the first bird flu case in Lithuania's wild fauna this year as dead swans in Klaipeda and Raseiniai also tested positive for this virus earlier this year.
