Defence Council announces plan to set up military training areas in Tauragė and Šilalė districts

The State Defence Council (VGT) has approved a proposal to establish military training areas in the districts of Tauragė and Šilalė, western Lithuania.

„The intended locations are suitable for the manoeuvre of a company-sized unit,“ Kęstutis Budrys, chief security adviser to the president, told reporters after a VGT sitting on Wednesday.

Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas said the military plans had been presented to mayors of the said districts who welcomed the initiative.

The draft legislation should be tabled in the Government soon, according to the minister. It is expected to reach the Parliament in July, Kasčiūnas added.
