Education Ministry suggests ending academic year on June 1

Lithuania's Ministry of Education, Science and Sports is suggesting ending the academic year on June 1 and schools could later decide on continue on non-formal educational activities and individual consultations for children.

"Taking into account the existing extreme situation in the country and as remote schooling is gaining momentum, … we suggest secondary schools to organize education until June 1," Education, Science and Sports Minister Algirdas Monkevicius says.

In his words, the ministry will continue its consultations with representatives of municipalities, schools, teachers and students this and next week regarding the end of the academic year, adding that the academic year should not be ended earlier than on June 1.

Special attention should also be put on school-leavers so that they can properly prepare for the graduation exam session starting on June 22, the ministry said.
