Eighteen irregular migrants detained in Lithuania

On Friday, 12 July, the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) detained 5 citizens of Iran and 13 citizens of Afghanistan that were transferred by the police.

The irregular migrants had been travelling from Latvia through Lithuania trying to reach Western Europe.

They were moved to units operated by the VSAT. Once it is confirmed that they had indeed arrived illegally from Latvia, they will be returned to the neighbouring country.

The migrants were discovered when police officers stopped a Fiat Ducato minibus driven by a citizen of Romania born in 2001.
