Foreign Minister: NATO in Vilnius to assess eastern flank defence since Madrid summit

Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis hopes that the NATO summit in Vilnius in July will take stock of the concrete steps taken by the Alliance countries to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank following the recognition of Russia as a territorial threat to its security.

The Lithuanian foreign minister, currently visiting the US, said that in an interview with the US Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on Tuesday.
“First of all, the defence of the eastern flank. There have been promises and assessments made in Madrid,  so we’ll have to assess the path that we walked in a year to see where it takes us, how we go further to Washington Summit,” Landsbergis said.
