Aloyzas Mickus, deputy commander of the Lithuanian police's anti-terrorist operations unit ARAS, told BNS Lithuania the police was notified about the discovery by people who were walking on the beach.
In his words, the grenade could not be transported as it was too dangerous, therefore, it was destroyed in place. Mickus said the grenade was probably washed out from the sea.
It was a modern grenade produced in Sweden, he said.
