"There are many ways and means of movement. Lithuania is part of the Schengen area. Apart from airports and ships, where (coronavirus cases are) easy to spot and quarantine, there are also roads. Therefore, it is very realistic for the virus to come to Lithuania. We are getting ready and watching," the minister told the Ziniu Radijas radio station.
"We have surveillance measures in place only at airports now, but we don't rule out broadening these measures," he added.
According to Veryga, EU ministers are meeting in Brussels on Thursday to discuss the situation and possible measures.
"The threat is real, and EU ministers are gathering to exchange opinions and prepare, if necessary, for monitoring movement not only at airports, but also across borders," he said.
