During the interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty the EU Foreign policy chief Josep Borrell was asked if the EU shares Lithuania’s position on this matter.

"As a Belarus neighbour, we are obviously concerned about the safety of the new nuclear power plant being constructed by Belarus on the border with Lithuania. Lithuania and the European Union share the same view“, he confirmed.

Moreover, J. Borrell added that Belarus must continue to engage with the European Union's safety experts to ensure that the recommendations for improving the safety of this plant are properly and fully addressed.

"Let me remind you that just a few days ago there was the International [Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day] a disaster that affects the lives of so many people living in Belarus today. It's a timely reminder that we cannot ignore the lessons of the past because the price to pay is too high“, the EU Foreign policy chief pointed out.
