Kasčiūnas will inform about Homeland Union leadership bid in two weeks

Outgoing Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas will announce on 27 December whether he is going to strive to lead the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrat party (TS-LKD). Its former chairman Gabrielius Landsbergis stepped down following the party’s defeat in the 2024 parliamentary election in October.

Kasčiūnas told journalists about his plans on Wednesday, after the final sitting of the outgoing Government.

TS-LKD branches are currently nominating potential leaders, with Acting Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė and Kasčiūnas being named the most often, as ELTA learned from Martynas Prievelis, the party’s executive secretary.
