Latvia plans to reintroduce military service in response to the ongoing war Russia is waging in Ukraine, the Defence Ministry said.
Latvia’s parliament passed the necessary amendments to the legislation on Wednesday. First, military service is to be gradually reintroduced from mid-2023 onwards, initially on a voluntary basis. It will then become compulsory as of next year.
