"We are starting five training courses for Ukrainians in August," he told LRT Radio.

Training specialists in the use of modern weaponAry increases its effectiveness and therefore plays a very important role in modern warfare and helps Ukraine defend itself against Russia more effectively, according to the minister.

"That is why we'd like to emphasize support in training specialists, rather than training people from scratch and improving their qualifications for the specific weapons used by the Ukrainians and the Lithuanian Armed Forces," he said.

The specialists will be trained in Lithuania. The country is also providing support by sending its instructors to Britain.

The Defense Ministry has said recently that Lithuania will have trained about 150 Ukrainian military specialists by the end of the six months of Russia's war in Ukraine.

According to Anusauskas, Lithuania sent its latest major shipment of military equipment to Ukraine two weeks ago.

"We are ahead of other countries with such consistent deliveries. These shipments took place not once in three or six months, but consistently, almost every month," he said.

The minister said the amount of Lithuania's support to Ukraine could total "toward 130 million euros".

Lithuania has sent military trucks, mine clearance SUVs, air defense systems, anti-tank weapons, mortars and other military support to Ukraine.

Officials say they are considering sending more weapons to Ukraine, adding that the process could be accelerated if the Allies agreed to backfill.
