Mayor of south town of Marijampolė dies

Vidmantas Brazys, the Social Democratic mayor of Marijampolė, has died after a severe illness, Irena Lunskienė, the southern Lithuanian town's deputy mayor, confirmed to BNS on Friday morning.

Brazys, who died at the age of 70, had held the post of mayor in Marijampolė since 2000, except for two years, 2007 and 2008, when he was the municipality's deputy mayor.
