MP to address prosecutors after minister revealed that Lithuania would buy German tanks

MP Agnė Širinskienė, chair of the parliamentary group of non-attached MPs, intends to appeal to prosecutors after Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas publicly revealed on Facebook that Lithuania would purchase German-made main battle tanks. Opposition lawmakers claim that the defence minister may no longer hold this position as he has lost trust.

Anušauskas announced after the State Defence Council on 24 July that Lithuania would sign a letter of intent to purchase German tanks Leopard and later explained that they would fit the best with the current German armaments used by the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

President Gitanas Nausėda said on Wednesday that the information about procurement of tanks was restricted and should not have been revealed publicly.

MP Širinskienė told the news agency ELTA that restricted information is classified and must be kept secret.
