The statement came in comment of a report in the US daily, The Wall Street Journal, about Russia targeting smartphones of NATO troops in the Baltic states and Poland.
"The NATO troops arriving in Lithuania are aware of the threats of this type and use their mobile devices in light of national restrictions and information protection requirements," the ministry's Division of Provision of Information to the Public told BNS.
"Lithuanian troops and all those working or serving in the national defense system are every year updated on the risks of using smart technologies, as well as the necessary protection of information and data, furthermore, they are urged to use their communication devices with care," said the Defense Ministry.
The Wall Street Journal cited troops, officials and government representatives of NATO member-states as saying that Russia was organizing a campaign to hack mobile telephones of troops, aimed at obtaining information, evaluating the capacities and intimidating troops.
The military said the campaign targeted 4,000 NATO troops stationed in Poland and the Baltic states this year.
