“When bidding farewell to President Macron, I said that this visit was meaningful for both countries. I said very sincerely: I want to understand you better, we want to hear you better, to understand your arguments. And, perhaps, you want the same. And the president replied: definitely so,” the Lithuanian leader told the reporters in Rukla on Tuesday.
In Rukla, which was the last stop of Macron’s visit to Lithuania, the French president met with French troops stationed within the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group.
Wrapping up the visit to Rukla, the leaders of the two countries hugged and spent several moments to talk face-to-face before bidding goodbye.
“I am happy that the president visited Rukla, met his troops – 300 French troops who will be stationed here until the end of the year. I see this as an excellent example of cooperation between various NATO allies,” Nauseda said.
The visit by Macron was the first bilateral visit by a French head of state to Lithuania in nearly two decades.
While in Lithuania, the French president also met with Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and the community of Vilnius University.
