Parliament approves e-residency status for foreigners

The Lithuanian parliament passed on Tuesday a legal amendment that will allow foreigners to obtain the status of an e-resident starting in January 2021.

E-residents will be able to set up companies, open bank accounts or declare taxes online.

An eligible foreign applicant will receive a digital identity that will give them online access to a range of administrative, public and commercial services.

E-residence applications will have to be submitted to the Migration Department.

Estonia launched a similar e-residency program in 2014.
