He called on residents to record violations themselves and to submit evidence to the police.
“We will not create special police capacities due to this function, we will respond pursuant to the general procedure. I cannot promise that we will respond to such reports as a matter of priority but we would also like to appeal to residents who will make phone calls, report and call the police. The legal environment, which is being created, puts an obligation on residents to be active themselves, i.e. to record that violation,” Pozela said in an interview to the national radio LRT on Friday morning.
The Lithuanian parliament on Thursday backed amendments to the Law on Control of Tobacco, Tobacco Products and Related Products effectively banning smoking in balconies of apartment blocks if at least one resident objected to such smoking.
The prohibition adopted by lawmakers still needs approval from president Gitanas Nauseda.
