Seimas speaker convenes extraordinary session Tuesday next week

Members of Parliament are set to convene for an extraordinary session on Tuesday next week to vote for Lithuania’s nomination to the European Commission.

Seimas Speaker Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen signed a respective decision on Tuesday, calling an extraordinary session on 3 September as proposed by 49 MPs.

The European commissioner is put forward by the Government with the consent of the president and the Seimas.

On 21 August, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė nominated MEP Andrius Kubilius as a potential representative of Lithuania at the EU Commission. President Gitanas Nausėda approved the Government’s nominee last week.
