Šimašius will participate in municipal election but will not run for Vilnius’ mayor

Incumbent Mayor of Vilnius City Remigijus Šimašius, a member of the Freedom Party, has confirmed that he will participate in the 2023 election to Vilnius City Municipal Council but will not seek to be re-elected for the third term of office as the mayor of Lithuania’s capital. He has been the mayor of Vilnius for two terms since 2015.

On 8 October, the Freedom Party held an event reviewing what it has accomplished in Vilnius in recent years and nominated mayoral candidates for the party’s primary elections in the capital.
