State Defence Council backs proposal to form a military division by 2030

The State Defence Council has approved the National Defence Ministry’s proposal to set up a division-sized military unit in Lithuania by 2030.

“A decision has been taken to approve the national defence minister’s proposal to create a division-sized unit of land forces, which would be in line with our threat assessment, the projected baseline scenario of Russia rebuilding its military, as well as NATO’s regional defence plans (&),” Kęstutis Budrys, chief presidential adviser on national security, said after the council’s meeting.
