"Three Lithuanian mountaineers were killed while climbing the Tetnuldi peak, and their bodies have now been found and taken to the town of Mestia," Kamandulis told BNS on Monday.

The public radio LRT was the first to report on the incident.

The mountaineers have been identified, Kamandulis said, adding that they were experienced mountaineers. He added, however, that the diseased are still to be confirmed and their relatives still have to be informed, therefore, the identities have not been disclosed.

Kamandulis said that the accident took place recently, adding that poor weather conditions might have played a role.

The Lithuanian Embassy in Georgia has not received any official information about the incident, the Foreign Ministry told BNS.

Citing the local TV channel Rustavi 2, the kavkaz-uzel.eu news website reports that the climbers were found in the Svaneti region in northeastern Georgia, near the Tetnuldi peak, and contact with them had been lost several days ago. On Sunday, rescuers had to use helicopters to search for them.
