Twelve candidates quit election race

Twelve candidates have changed their minds about standing in the parliamentary election, the Central Electoral Commission (VRK) says.

The list includes former MEP Stasys Jakeliūnas, who intended to run for parliament with the Peace Coalition. MP Andrius Mazuronis, who was fielded by the Regions Party, announced his withdrawal on Monday.

Tuesday was the last day candidates could withdraw their applications.

The Freedom and Justice party’s list was shortened after one of the candidates passed away.

Lithuanians will go to the polls to elect 141 MPs on 13 October.
