Illarionov: Only after Russia becomes a democratic country will the bloodshed end
67
The Lithuania Tribune spoke to Andrei Illarionov, former advisor to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and senior fellow at the Cato Institute's Centre for Global Liberty and Transparency, who came to the Riga Conference 2014. Bloodshed like the one in Ukraine will continue as long as Russia remains an autocratic state, Mr Illarionov is convinced. It’s in the interest of Russia and its people to become a democratic country, he insists, even though most Russians do not understand that now. It is a duty of the West to help them realize that, Mr. Illarionov said.
