Palanga lifeguards to have bird's-eye view over beaches

Palanga's lifeguards presented the newest piece of equipment that will help them oversee the coast. Special drones will give them a bird's-eye view of holidaymakers and troublemakers. If need be, they will also be able to deliver lifebelts to distressed swimmers within seconds.

Jonas Pirožnikas, the chief of Palanga Lifeguard's Service, says that no one in the Baltics has yet had the chance to make use of the equipment.

Three drones will oversee the beaches of Palanga. On its "raid" on Friday, one of the drones already captured something that wasn't supposed to be there - illegal fish traders.

According to the lifeguards, the drones will help both protect the safety of holidaymakers more efficiently, find missing children and fight illegal activities in Lithuania's most popular seaside resort.
