Lithuania marks State Day – the Coronation of King Mindaugas on 6 July.

The coronation of Mindaugas is viewed as the birth of the Lithuanian state, however we rarely consider whether we really understand what the title of king meant in the Europe of the time and who could legitimately pursue it.

In her solemn message on the Day of Statehood – Coronation of King Mindaugas, Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė on Thursday urged the nation to feel the external support Lithuania enjoy and remember unity at all times.

Lithuania is celebrating its Day of Statehood, which marks coronation of its only King Mindaugas.
