Lithuanian-Russian state border

Lithuania is Monday starting to build a protective fence on the border with the Russian Kaliningrad region.

Although Russia expects to complete the construction of a new bridge over the river Nemunas by mid-2015, it will stand unused for another couple of years as Russian officials forgot about the necessary border checkpoint facilities, the daily Lietuvos Žinios reported on Saturday.

Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador to Lithuania Aleksandr Udaltsov on 24 November over the trade barriers at the border, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania wrote in a press release.
